he Ohio Northern women's basketball team had 14 student-athletes register points in its 84-56 win against Marietta in front of nearly 900 fans in the first game of Saturday's Cystic Fibrosis doubleheader at the ONU Sports Center.
Sophomore Jaidyn Hale's (Lima/Bath) 11 points led the Polar Bears' (11-4 overall, 5-3 OAC) balanced scoring attack. Junior Sydney Ward (Columbus/Arlington) and senior Abby Weeks (West Chester/Mount Notre Dame) each scored 10 points.
Additionally, freshman Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) chipped in eight points, five assists, and three rebounds. Serbin had a game-best +/- of 23.
Senior Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) and junior Emily Brock (Akron/Revere) also had eight points.
The Pioneers (7-8 overall, 3-5 OAC) were led by 11 points from Alexis Enochs.
Northern dominated the glass, holding a 53-29 rebounding advantage.
ONU trailed 9-6 early but scored the next 11 points to lead 17-9 before closing the first quarter with a 21-13 lead.
A Brock jumper pushed the Polar Bear advantage out to 45-26 at the half.
Brock's 3-pointer with 3:06 to play in the third quarter gave Northern its largest lead of the afternoon at 64-33.
Northern's bench outscored MC's bench 53-23.
The Polar Bears drained 32-of-71 (45.1%) shots and 8-of-20 (40.0%) 3-pointers. The Pioneers were 19-for-58 (32.8%) from the floor and 5-for-19 (26.3%) on 3-pointers.
Ohio Northern heads to Westerville for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday.
