The No. 21-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team improved to 6-0-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference action after defeating Heidelberg 3-1 at Kerscher Stadium on Tuesday night.
ONU (12-2-2 overall, 6-0-0 OAC) won its eighth consecutive match.
Junior Abigail Mathews (Liberty Township/Lakota East) provided the match's first goal in the 15th minute on a blast from 22 yards out. Senior Rose Nienaber (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) earned the corner and an assist in the sequence.
In the 30th minute, freshman Jane Reiring (Cincinnati/Country Day) found junior Megan Breier (Plainfield, Ill./North), who sent a cross directly to junior Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) to put ONU up 2-0.
Fuller netted her 14th goal of the season on the left-footed strike. She has seven goals in the last five matches and has scored in 10 of 16 matches this season.
Heidelberg (5-9-1 overall, 1-5-0 OAC) drew to within 2-1 in the 45th minute on a goal by Audrey Kauffman.
The Student Princes had seven shots in the second half, including a dangerous opportunity in the 56th minute that was stopped by senior Meagan Grierson (Dayton/Miamisburg).
ONU recorded a key insurance goal in the 76th minute.
Senior Haley Moses (Mason) passed to Nienaber, who dribbled into the the left side of box and made a cross to the far post.
Freshman Allison Contenza (Rocky River) converted the cross from a yard out, putting the Polar Bears up 3-1.
Moses registered her 20th career assist, moving her into a tie for 10th with Laura Smolinski for career assists in ONU history.
Northern outshot Heidelberg 20-9 and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Ohio Northern hosts its final regular season home match, the Friends of Jaclyn Game, on Saturday at 1:00 against Capital.
