Tickets now on sale for October 19 Bourbon Ball

The United Way of Hardin County has announced that tickets are on sale for the 2024 Bourbon Disco Ball: "This year we are traveling back to the 1970s when it was groovy to wear platform shoes and bell bottoms."

This is a costume recommended event. Call the United Way at 419-675-1860 to purchase tickets. Individual tickets are $30.00 with tables of 8 available for $210.00. Organizers emphasize, "Don't be a Jive Turkey, get your ticket today!"

The 2024-25 Keiser Distinguished Lecture in Life Sciences Lecturer will be award-winning writer, artist, illustrator, and naturalist David Allen Sibley, author of The Sibley Guide to Birds, The Sibley Guide to Trees, and What It's Like to Be a Bird, and illustrator for Bright Wings: An Illustrated Anthology of Poems About Birds.  As an artist and as a bird enthusiast, Mr. Sibley has been recognized as one of the greatest scientific illustrators of our time as well as perhaps the most important illustrator of birds since Roger Tory Peterson.

ONU women's golf places 3rd at ONU Wilson Football Kickoff Golf Classic

The Ohio Northern women's golf team opened the fall portion of its 2024-25 season Sunday and Monday with a third place finish at the ONU Wilson Football Kickoff Golf Classic in Honor of Joe Campoli tournament at Colonial Golfers Club.

SR 81 detour between Ada and Dola begins Sept 9

The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced that State Route 81 culvert replacement will impact traffic and close a section east of Ada beginning September 9.

State Route 81 at the intersection of County Road 95, approximately four miles east of the village of Ada, will close for approximately 12 days for a culvert replacement.

Detour:  U.S. 68 to U.S. 30 to SR 235, back to SR 81.

Citizens Sheriff’s Academy now taking applications

Tuesday evenings, Sept. 24-Oct. 29

Hardin County Sheriff's Office, 1025 S. Main St., Kenton

Sheriff Keith Everhart has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2024 Hardin County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy, to be conducted on consecutive Tuesdays from September 24 to October 29. The sessions are planned for 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Academy will provide participants with a working knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office. It explains aspects of the Sheriff’s responsibilities using classroom and hands-on participation to provide an overview of the talents, skills, diversity and quality of the Sheriff’s Office.
