Four Ada cheerleaders named All-Americans; invited to holiday parades

Four members of  the Ada High School varsity cheer squad were named All-Americans at their recent Universal Cheer Association cheer camp at Ohio Northern.

Nora Dellifield was invited to attend the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, Rielyn Castle, Anabel Alexander, and Lyric Jones were invited to attend the New Year's Day parade in London, England. They can also choose to attend the Thanksgiving Day parade at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Ten to 12 percent of all cheerleaders receive the honor after a tryout during camp. Universal Cheer Association, a division of Varsity Spirit.

40 competitors at Saturday's Vault on the Tundra raise $1,500 for athletic equipment

Steve Johnson, who has served as ONU's pole vault coach for the past three years, said the event raised about $1,500 for athletic equipment.

The pole vaulters competed outside next to King-Horn Center on a day when Ada temperatures reached 90 degrees.  The vaulters included high school boys and girls, collegiate, and men and women open.

Among them was Tyler Orewiler of Bucyrus, a recent ONU grad who placed second in Division III nationals with a vault of 17 feet. He is now a med student in Marietta.

And we thought $2.05.9 was low!

Beaverdam summerfest Aug. 13 - lots of raffle prizes

Beaverdam-Richland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department hosts its annual summerfest Saturday, Aug. 13.

Events begin at 4 p.m. and go into the evening. Summerfest had homemade food and ice cream, kids bouncy rides plus a game trailer.

The band, Exploit, performs at 7 p.m.

At 9 p.m. will be drawings for several prizes

• First prize  - 24-inch show thrower
• Second prize – Kids’ battery vehicle
• Third prize – Rodabaugh Brothers meat certificate
• Fourth prize – Wooden bench swing
• Fifth prize – Fire ring
• Sixth prize – FitBit
• Seventh prize – Home safety kit

It's band camp week - Toy Story this year's theme; preview performance July 29

If you’r hear drum cadences, the Ada school fight song, or the music from Toy Story, it’ is the Ada High School Marching Band and Color Guard preparing for the 2016 fall football and competition season. 

Ada Band and Color Guard members are deep into marching band camp at the school. The camp started July 18 and continues until Friday, July 29.

A special preview performance will be held at the conclusion of camp at 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, in the Auxiliary gym.
