ONU volleyball sweeps area-rival Bluffton

BLUFFTON — Sophomore McKenna Jordan (Toledo/Saint Ursula) had a match-high 14 kills to lead the Ohio Northern volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-19, 25-10 victory at area-rival Bluffton on Wednesday night at Sommer Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 7-2 on the season, while the Beavers fall to 4-5.

In the opening set, Ohio Northern led 15-14 before closing the set on a 10-2 run.

Northern jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second set and led comfortably throughout to go up two sets to none.

Editor's note: A former Ada resident experienced Hurricane Irma firsthand. Here's what it's like to take shelter, and live through, a monstrous storm.

Lakeland, Fla., Sunday, Sept. 10 - A good friend of mine and I pull together blankets, pillows, chairs, and a cooler of bottled water as we prepare to go to a local hurricane shelter (Sleepy Hill Elementary School) to ride out Irma, labeled the MOTHER OF ALL HURRICANES. We are both nervous and scared.

Family music for babies to 5-year-olds - newest class at Miss Vicki's Music Studio

Family music for babies to 5-year-olds is coming to Miss Vicki's Music Studio in Ada on Sept. 21.

Vicki Mills, studio owner said, "Make music as a family! This new section of music class is for parents,guardians and children under the age 5 to 6.

"Classes are action-packed with singing, dancing, listening, playing instruments, and are a joyful time of making music together."

These new classes are from 6:40 - 7:10 p.m. on Thursday evenings.  Cost for one child is $175 and siblings are discounted.

Dr Karen Kier receives award

Dr. Karen (Hillegass) Kier, BSPh '82, is the recipient of this year's prestigious Clifton J. Latiolais Award from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Each year, OSU presents the Latiolais Award to an individual of "high personal and professional ideals, who has made significant contributions to institutional pharmacy practice."

Dr. Kier holds a master's degree in hospital pharmacy and a Ph.D. in pharmacy administration from OSU.

At Ohio Northern, Dr. Kier is Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Director of Assessment, Preventive Care Specialist for ONU HealthWise and Director of the Drug Information Center.
