Ohio Northern University’s Mortar Board chapter honored

 

The Aurora chapter of the National Mortar Board Society at Ohio Northern University was honored for excellence at the 2012 Mortar Board National Conference, held this past July in Chicago.

The Aurora chapter received the Silver Torch Award, an honor presented to chapters executing timeliness and dedication while exemplifying the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service. Silver Torch Award recipients are selected based on a review of national records, requiring that the chapter meet all of the national minimum standards and deadlines.

ONU professor receives Teaching with Primary Sources grant

Dr. James Schul, assistant professor of education at Ohio Northern University, has received a Teaching with Primary Sources Midwest Region grant to fund the “Fostering Historical Thinking and Imagination through Primary Source Instruction” project.

Ohio Northern University’s PRSSA chapter receives Star Chapter recognition

 

Ohio Northern University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) received a Star Chapter Award at the 2012 PRSSA National Conference in San Francisco Oct. 12-19.

Ohio Northern University’s PRSSA team finishes third in national competition

 

Ohio Northern University’s Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) group took third place in Rowan University’s 2012 National Organ Donor Awareness Competition (NODAC).

The six-person team was compromised of 2012 graduates Rebecca Risner, Catherine Clampitt and Elizabeth Fako and current students Katie Hozan, a senior communication arts major from Homerville, Ohio, Katee Johnson, a sophomore communication arts and public relations major from Forest, Ohio, and Jeni Kmic, a senior communication arts major from Delta, Ohio. ONU’s PRSSA chapter was awarded $200 for its third-place finish.

Volleyball advances to semifinals of OAC Tournament after Baldwin Wallace withdraws from all postseason competition

The Ohio Northern volleyball team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament after Baldwin Wallace self reported NCAA violations and withdrew all of its teams from OAC and NCAA postseason competition for the entire academic year on Tuesday.

The No. 3-seeded Polar Bears (24-5 overall) were slated to host the sixth-seeded Yellow Jackets on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the OAC Tournament and will now advance to the semifinals Friday night at a home of the highest seeded quarterfinal winner.

Several events are planned in early November in Ada, according to the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce. Here's a capsule of those events:

Fall Festival Nov. 3

Fall Festival of Crafts at Community Health Professionals. Local crafters will sell their creations to help Ada residents with holiday decorations and gifts. A soup bar will be available featuring:

• Homemade ham and beans 
• Cornbread  
• Fresh vegetable soup  
• Homemade bread  
• Cookies and drinks.
