Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary accepts prom dress donations

The Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary’s Nearly New Shop is accepting donations for their annual prom dress distribution. Items accepted include gently used dresses, shoes and accessories.

The items can be dropped off at the Nearly New Shop, 306 Lima Avenue through March 12.

After March 13, the dresses, shoes and accessories will be available free of charge to any area teen needing items for prom. One dress per girl will be provided. Dresses will be available through prom season.

ONU to present Carrie Newcomer

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present Carrie Newcomer on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Newcomer is a rare breed of singer/songwriter, the kind who illuminates life with startling depth, humor and clarity. She has the ability to blend her rich alto voice with a poetic lyricism on a skillfully arranged and performed collection of folk root tracks, with Appalachian and classical influences.

Newcomer has produced 13 solo albums and has received numerous awards for her music and related charitable activities. She has done numerous collaborations with authors, academics, philosophers and musicians.

Come have a blind date with a book at Ada Public Library

The Ada Public Library knows that sometimes patrons just need to be released from the tyranny of choice.  In other words, with so many great books to read, how do you choose?

Come in and have a 'Blind Date with a Book.' Pick out a book based on only a few hints written on the outside of it's paper-wrapped exterior.  Some will say 'thriller' or 'romance' or 'amazing historical novel', etc.   No peeking!  

You might just find an unforgettable read that you would have passed over otherwise.

 

Kwiat wins, Jones third to lead no. 17 wrestling at 29-team Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational

Senior Kyle Kwiat won at 174 pounds and senior Jeremy Jones finished third at 133 pounds to lead the No. 17-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team to an 11th place finish at the 29-team Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Jones had an impressive 7-1 record, including a 3-0 record in the wrestlebacks on Saturday, to improve to 21-15 on the season.

He on a tight 2-0 decision over sixth-seeded James Bennett of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the third place match.

Kwiat, the No. 1-ranked and top-seeded wrestler at 174 pounds, posted a 4-0 record with three tech falls on the weekend.

Dominique Royal's career-high 22 points leads men's basketball past Muskingum 86-79

Junior Dominique Royal scored a career-high 22 points, including five straight in a key stretch in the final minute of play, to lead Ohio Northern past Muskingum 86-79 in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 10-11 overall and are 6-8 in OAC play, while the Muskies fall to 1-20, 0-14.

Clinging to a 78-77 lead, Royal scored on an offensive rebound and was fouled with 51 seconds to play. He missed the free throw, but senior Taylor Kuhlman grabbed the rebound and fed Royal for a layup and another three-point chance with 35 seconds left.
