2024 Hardin County dog tags on sale December 1

Notice to all Hardin County dog owners: every dog three months of age and older must have a dog license. The fee for a 2024 tag is $20.00 and the fee for a kennel license is $100.00.

Dog tags may be purchased from the following Ada businesses between December 1 and January 3:

  • Ada Animal Hospital
  • Middlefield Banking Co.

If such application for registration is not filed and said fee paid on or before January 31, 2024, the County Auditor shall assess a penalty of $20.00 on a dog license and $100.00 on a kennel license. Anyone found harboring an unlicensed dog after the 31st of January shall be cited into court.

The Ada Ohio Historical Society (AOHS) recently shared this Ohio Normal University (which became Ohio Northern University) advertisement from 1894. It's interesting to imagine hopping on a train or in a carriage to travel to a university sight unseen. But as the ad promises, transportation expenese were refundable "if things are not found as represented."

(November 21) ADA__The 17th-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell 58-55 in a defensive battle at Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday evening.

Ada High School head coach Vince Halliday enters year three of rebuilding the Bulldog boys basketball program with little returning experience but plenty of athleticism, youth and hope for the future in the fold. 

Nine seniors and all five starters graduated from a 10-14 team that went 0-8 in Northwest Conference play last year.

Two little-used lettermen return to combine with several promising but young newcomers this winter. Ada lost 99 percent of its scoring to graduation, yet could surprise people with its athletic ability.

"Obviously, we are very young and inexperienced," admitted Halliday. "We will probably start two freshmen and two sophomores. But I like the talent.

December 2 Merry on Main is a holiday event for all

Annual Merry on Main festivities take place this Saturday, December 2, on Main Street in downtown Ada. A variety of activities will take place from 11:00 am.-2:00 p.m.

The following events will take place at the Depot, according to the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce:

  • Meet Santa and his elves
  • Enjoy FREE cookies from the Lions Club
  • Cookie decorating station
  • Balloon artist
  • Ornament making
  • Free games 
  • Dance performances by Studio 419 students

Downtown locations will also host holiday-themed activities:

  • Meet Anna & Elsa at Century 21 Sunway Realty 
  • FREE hot chocolate bar at Buckeye East
  • Kids shopping event at Beatitudes
  • Letters to Santa and crafts at Ada First United Methodist Church
