Richard "Dick" Counts, 1942 - 2018
Richard Lee “Dick” Counts, age 76, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 5:08 AM at his residence in Ada, surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 11, 1942 in Lima, Ohio to the late Eugene and Freda (Sroufe) Counts. On March 3, 1962 Dick married Bonnie M. Wireman and she survives in Ada. Also surviving are his children: John E. (Bonnie) Counts of Fostoria, Cathy A. (Warren “Mac”) McNeely of Bellevue, Linda S. (Marc) Staley of Ada, and Robert K. Counts of Lima; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Dick retired from Armstrong Air Conditioning in Bellevue, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1967. He was a graduate of Lima Senior High School class of 1960 where he was a member of the State Runner Up baseball team that same year. Dick was a member of the Ada VFW Post #9381, a member of the Ada Lions Club and the Bellevue Eagles Post #490. He loved supporting the Ada sports teams. He kept the stats for the Ada football team and was score keeper for the Ada boys basketball team for many years. Dick enjoyed being a Cleveland Browns fan and spending many Sundays in the “Dawg Pound.” He loved following his grandchildren and supporting them in all their sports, music, theatre and dance activities. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Thomas Dearth officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada with graveside military services conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada and until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Ada Athletic Boosters and/or the Ada Lions Club and/or The Putnam County Homecare and Hospice.
