Avanell J. Brace, 94, passed away Tuesday Oct. 9, 2018 in Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born on January 29, 1924 in Ada. She was the oldest child of the late Vynal and Mabel (Rhodes) Kindle of Ada. On June 22, 1950 Avanell married Franklin R. Brace who died September 1, 1999.
Avanell graduated from Ada High School in 1942 and began working at Swift and Co. in Lima Ohio as a bookkeeper. She co-managed the Brace News Agency with her late husband. She managed multiple rentals in the Ada area as well as the Brace Apartments. She worked for Baughman and Siekerman Greenhouses and retired from Carol Slane Florist in the 1990's. She served the community as a leader in the Hardin County 4-H Club, the Ada High School PTA and Band Boosters as well as the Ada Chapter of the American Legion Auxillary. Avanell was active with her husband Frank in the Ada Lions Club. She enjoyed her retirement with her family and friends. She loved to watch birds and was an avid gardener.
She is survived by 2 children, Steven R. (Carole) Brace of Fort Wayne, IN and Laura J. (Neal) Nuttle of Ada; 3 grandchildren Michael (Heather) Brace, Katherine (Tyler) Brace, and Emily (Sterling) Gore; 4 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, Hannah, and Ripley; and a sister, Cheryl Quay of Lima.
Preceding her in death were her 2 brothers, Clair Kindle and Lester Kindle and sister, Doris McBride.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 15, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Deacon J. Michael Hood officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 15, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Putnam County Home Care and Hospice, Ottawa.
