Polar Bears advance to NCAA III Softball World Series with 7-5 victory over Trine

Senior Cassie Gaye drilled a 3-run home run and sophomore Dani Steepe was outstanding in the circle to lead No. 25 Ohio Northern past No. 16 Trine (Ind.) 7-5 in the championship game of the NCAA III Regionals Monday morning at Scots Field.
The second-seeded Polar Bears advance to the NCAA Division III World Series with a 31-12 record, while the top-seeded Thunder ends its season at 40-10.

ONU will play No. 3-ranked Linfield (Ore.) in the first round of the World Series Friday at 10 am in Salem, Va.

Gaye blasted a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to stake the Polar Bears to a quick 3-0 lead.

Ada Public Library software changes underway

The Ada Public Library will be undergoing a software migration that will span the months of May and June. The library wants its patrons to be prepared as it gear up for some changes. The library has prepared a video to assist in explaining the changes underway.

Beginning Thursday, May 31​, a library card will be required to check out materials. This is a requirement as the library's software is updated.

After May 31​, patrons and library staff will not be able to place holds on library items. This is a temporary situation while the library's software is being updated.

May continues to be busy even though it's the final month of school

It's coming to a close - the 2011-12 Ada school year. Here's a list of some of the year-end events on the school calendar.

Apollo culinary arts instructor receives ProStart Teacher award

Carrie Hamilton, Apollo Career Center Culinary Arts Instructor, will receive the ProStart  Teacher of Excellence Award, Wednesday, May, 16 in Columbus.

Hamilton is being recognized for being an outstanding Ohio ProStart teacher who has made a significant contribution to the Ohio ProStart program, their school, and community. Hamilton was also recognized in Chicago May 6, with 46 other teachers (one from each state) who received their state award. One culinary teacher across the state receives this award and it is voted on by other teachers, as well as Ohio Restaurant Association staff.

OHSAA Board of Directors Meeting Highlights – May 10

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors met last Thursday morning in Columbus for its regularly scheduled May meeting. The following are highlights from the meeting. The complete set of meeting minutes will be posted at OHSAA.org.

- The Board approved the 2012-13 general sports regulations and the sport-by-sport regulations. Of note, the start date for football practice this fall is July 30 and all other fall sports begin practice on the first Monday in August, which is August 6.
