Ada's latest news

This week is your final chance of the summer to dive in, go down the slide, do lap swims or simply sit in the sun at the Ada swimming pool.

The pool season sends on Saturday, Aug. 10, which coincides with the Ada Farmers and Merchants picnic. Admission on Saturday, during the picnic is $1.

The pool is open this week each day from 1 to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Daily admission (except on Aug. 10) is $3.

Adults have a final chance for lap swims on Wednesday and Friday from noon to 1 p.m. Toddler swim is also at that time. Admission is $1.

There's a lot going on in Ada this weekend. For starters, its the centennial edition of the Ada Farmers' and Merchants' picnic. Events start Friday evening and continue all day Saturday at the Ada park. The complete weekend schedule will be posted on the Icon tomorrow.

Chicken Wild Rice Salad

Ingredients:
1 cup wild rice, cooked
2 cups grapes
Chopped celery
1 cup cashews
3 cups chicken
1 cup water chestnuts, sliced
Chopped onion

Dressing
2 cups Miracle Whip
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
Dash of dill weed
1/4 tsp. curry
1 tsp. seasoned salt

Former Ada Police Chief Thomas Gibson, Jr., 81, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at 10:26 a.m.at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima, Ohio. He was born on Feb. 15, 1932, in McCutchenville, Ohio, to Thomas and Ada (Hale ) Gibson; both are deceased. On May 19, 1952, he married Christina R. Martin. She survives in Ada, Ohio.

Damien D. Howard, 20, died at 2:35 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Hardin County, Ohio due to an auto accident.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1993, in Kenton, Ohio to Paul Howard and Angela (Bailey) Howard, his father survives in McGuffey and his mother survives in Alger.

Damien worked as a fork lift driver at Honda of America, East Liberty. In 2012 he graduated from Allen East High School and Apollo.

Also surviving are a sister, Donna Hewitt of Harrod; paternal grandmother, Mary Howard of McGuffey; maternal grandmother, Barb Morrison of Alger
