Outside sources confirm Ohio Northern University’s strong reputation. This fall, several ranking services again rank ONU among the best universities for offering an exceptional educational experience.
The rankings give high marks to Ohio Northern in a variety of categories. While the criteria differ, the common denominator is the recognition of the value of relevancy of an Ohio Northern degree.
For example, U.S. News & World ranks ONU fourth in its Best Regional Colleges Midwest Rankings (as part of the publication’s 2019 Best Colleges lists). This is the second straight year Ohio Northern has achieved this lofty ranking after placing sixth in the Midwest in the 2017 rankings. These colleges and universities focus on the undergraduate experience and offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts and professional fields.

Additionally, ONU is 10th in the region in the “A+ school for B students category,” which focuses on colleges and universities where students who work hard find an environment where they can thrive.
Also, U.S. News ranks Ohio Northern’s T.J. Smull College of Engineering 30th nationally among engineering programs that offer a bachelor’s or master’s degree as the highest degree. This marks the 11th time in the past 12 years that ONU’s College of Engineering has been ranked as a top-50 program.

The University also earned lofty reviews from several other college ratings venues.
ONU is strong in preparing its graduates for meaningful careers, according to Brookings and its college scorecard data. The source gave the University a sterling rating of 93 on a 100-point scale. Brookings uses data to predict the median earnings for graduates six to 10 years after graduation, based on the graduates’ actual earnings compared to their expected wages.
Washington Monthly rates Ohio Northern as 14th in the baccalaureate colleges category of its 2018 rankings. These rankings include smart, well-run colleges that enroll students from all walks of life and help them earn a high-quality diploma at an affordable price. The publication also includes ONU among its “Best bang for the buck” institutions, which recognizes colleges and universities at which non-wealthy students can attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
Further, The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings for 2019 rate ONU 126th of the 968 institutions it rates nationwide, listing the University’s engagement as its strongest asset. This category reflects criteria such as interaction with faculty members, focus on critical thinking, and applying what is learned in the classroom and labs to real-world situations.
ONU is included in The Princeton Review’s “Best 384 Colleges,” mentioning the advantages of the sense of community that exists in the campus and village of Ada. As a student notes, “Because we are in a small town, the students bond together to find fun things to do.”
The University is included in MONEY’s “Best Colleges for 2018-19.” Also, Forbes ranks ONU in its “America’s Top Colleges” list.
Further, Bestcolleges.com rates ONU as one of the top universities in Ohio.
