“Oh, it's delightful to have ambitions. I'm so glad I have such a lot. And there never seems to be any end to them- that's the best of it. Just as soon as you attain to one ambition you see another one glittering higher up still. It does make life so interesting.”
― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
Samantha Valent, Recent ONU Law grad studying for bar exam
Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery is Samantha Valent’s favorite book. “It is such a sweet story about Anne who is smart, strong, and is honest. The brother and sister who adopt Anne, love her unconditionally and she loves them. It’s so funny and lighthearted,” Samantha shares excitedly.
"Anne is a spunky redheaded adoptee who learns her family wanted to adopt a boy instead. However the extremely uplifting and heartwarming story evolves as Anne tries to win the family over as she delves into her adventures on the farm called Green Gables.
“Plus, there’s Gilbert Blythe!” adds Samantha. To find out who Gilbert is and how he fits into the book, you’ll have to give it a go. This classic read promises not to disappoint.
Apart from her law studies, Samantha is currently reading Great Tales from English History by Robert Lacey. Five other books Samantha Valent recommends are:
• Heroes for My Daughter by Brad Meltzer (juvenile literature, biography)
• Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds (fiction)
• The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo (juvenile fiction)
• Number the Stars by Lois Lowry (fiction)
• Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (historical fiction, fantasy, romance)
