John E. Hunt, age 74, died on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11:11 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born December 27, 1943 in Lima, Ohio to the late Roy and Mary (Roose) Hunt and his step-mother, Rita Hunt is also deceased. He was first married to Sharon Elaine VanSchoyck and she is deceased. Then on November 20, 1976 he married Dixie Jean Fierabend and she preceded him in death on March 7, 2010.
John was retired from the Lima Correctional Institution, after 36 years, as a Sergeant Correctional Specialist. He attended the Ada Full Gospel Pentecostal Church of God. John was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the USS Kidd.
Surviving are two sons: Steven M. (Rhonda) Hunt of Alger and John P. (Lori) Hunt of Alger; one daughter: Tammy (Gerald “Tiny”) Holbrook of Alger and 2 step daughters: one daughter-in-law: Shelly Hopson of Ada; six brothers: Roy (Irene) Hunt of Lima, Jack Hunt of Lima, David Hunt of Lima, Greg Roose of Wapakoneta, George Roose of Russells Point, and Michael Roose of Columbus Grove; nine sisters: Carol (Glenn) Shumpert of St. Stephen, SC, Barb (Mike) Watkins of Elida, Chris (V.J.) Gonzalez of Bay City, TX, Shirley Nickolson of Lima, Barbara (Donald) Stone of Elida, Martha Beltz of Bellefontaine, Mary Joseph of Wapakoneta, Becky Baldwin of Wapakoneta, and Robyn Joseph of southern Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a step-son: Jacob D. Hughart; five brothers: Don Hunt, Steven Hunt, John Roose, Roy “Pete” Roose and Carl Roose and three sisters: Kathy Hurst, Carol Serna and Phyllis Mowery.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Rev. Karen Rarey officiating. Burial will be in Huntersville Cemetery, Ada, Ohio. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Ada VFW Post#9381 Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, Ohio and until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribution can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
