The Ohio Northern men's track and field program and senior jumps specialist Alex Sibila (Zionsville, Ind.) were recognized Thursday, July 26 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with the release of their annual All-Academic honors list.
The men's program received All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA for the 2018 season, joining a list of 291 NCAA Division III teams recognized for their academic achievements. The listing would include 106 men's track and field squads while 185 women's programs garnered the accolade.
In the classroom this season, the Polar Bears would secure a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20, leading to their nomination for the award.
Additionally, Sibila would be the recipient of USTFCCCA All-Academic individual honors.
The senior electrical engineering major earned his award by meeting the team's minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average requirement. In addition, he would also achieve the association's athletic standard requiring him to either qualify for an NCAA Championship event or finish the season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or in the top-35 of a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
Sibila has received previous honors in 2018 for his work in the classroom, being named Academic All-OAC earlier this postseason to finish his career as a three-time honoree.
On the track this season, Sibila was crowned the Ohio Athletic Conference outdoor season high jump champion, also earning him All-OAC accolades.
Northern would finish the 2018 season with a pair of third-place finishes in the OAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships while the team amassed a 69-33 combined record under ninth-year head coach Jason Maus.
