Here's the Icon's Final Four contest winners
The Icon’s Final Four Contest went into double-overtime to pick its winners. The contest asked viewers to pick the winner of the final four teams in the Division I men’s NCAA basketball championship.
Villanova defeated Michigan 79 to 62 in the title game. The Icon contest had 102 entries.
The top 3 winners:
Joel Groman
Overall winner – 39th entry
Prize – 8 Shannon Theatre tickets
Kristi Hurley
Second place – 83rd entry
Prize – 4 Shannon Theatre tickets
Lisa Coonfare
Third place – 90th entry
Prize – 2 Shannon Theatre tickets
Groman, Hurley and Coonfare each picked Villanova to beat Michigan by 11 to 15 points. While Villanova won by 17, no contestant picked the Wildcats to win by more than 15 points.
Each of the three also picked Villanova to score first (first tie-breaker).
The Icon entered double-overtime to pick the overall winner. It awarded Groman as the winner as he was the earliest entry of the three finalists.
In a question with no bearing on the contest, contestants were asked to name the team they would like to see win the national title. Loyola was the favorite with 58 contestants wishing the Ramblers had won. The Ramblers lost to Michigan in the opening round. In the other opener, Villanova defeated Kansas.
