Meet the new Ada Public Library director. He's Rhett Grant, a soft spoken Southerner without the Southern drawl. The 45-year-old comes to Ada from a suburb of Atlanta.
Rhett grew up in Alabama and Michigan.
His library experience, too, is a combination of the South and Midwest. His most recent library job was head of adult services for a library in Clarkston, Mich.
Since the youth program in Ada is going great guns under the leadership of Natalie Walton, Rhett would like to see more adult services, which is his forte. He is considering a program to make books available to the home bound and to provide services to the residents of Vancrest, as two possibilities.
And the new library addition and renovation will be at the top of his "to do" list once bids are accepted by the board.
He earned a B.A. degree and Masters of Library Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattisburg.
His wife, Jennifer, holds a law degree.
Rhett began his duties at the Ada library this week. His first "customer" was a 4-year-old who stepped into his office to ask for computer help, a fond memory of his first day on the job here and a lesson that the local librarian has a myriad of duties to serve people of all ages.
