John “Bud” Mankey, Jr., age 97, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Vancrest of Ada.
He was born on April 10, 1921 in Ada, Ohio to the late John M. and Blanche Daisy (Street) Mankey. On September 27, 1946 John married Janice Frederick and she died on November 22, 1989.
John retired from Superior Coach, Lima. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during WWII. He was a member of the Lima VFW Post #1275, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #428 of Kenton, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the AMVets. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Barbara J. Wood, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 8:55 a.m. at the Freida House at Willow Ridge, Bluffton, Ohio.
She was born on February 2, 1927 in Kenton, Ohio to Chester E. and Helen (Griffis) Brown who preceded her in death. On July 1, 1950 she married Charles E. Wood and he survives in Bluffton.
Barbara was a former office secretary at Kenton High School and a homemaker. She was a member of the Ada First United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Wauseon and Lake Panasoffkee United Methodist Church in Florida. Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
ONU Engineering Dean J.D. Yoder gives a hard hat tour of the new engineering building to the Yammine family of Findlay during Homecoming on Saturday. Tours of a portion of the new building were available to returning graduates and their families. Mike, a 1989 electrical engineering graduate, his wife Laurie and son Jason saw the work that has been done since groundbreaking in May on the James Lehr Kennedy Engineering Building. The Yammine’s currently have two sons enrolled at ONU, Brandon in electrical engineering and Travis in marketing.
The 41st annual Ada Music Feast show choir invitational competition will be held all day on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the school.
This year’s program will feature students from nine show choirs from Ohio and Michigan. The Ada Varsity Singers, under the direction of Scott Henning, vocal music director, and Jonathan Lischak, director of instrumental music, will provide an exhibition performance as the host school.
The event will be held in the high school auditorium with the first group taking the stage at 8:30 a.m. Performances continue throughout the day with the daytime awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Ada High School won MakerFest among 30 schools that competed Friday at Apollo Career Center.
MakerFest organizers presented the trophy to the school and medals to the individual winners Tuesday during the lunch hour in the school cafeteria.
Ada won the STEM competition which consisted of 17 challenges in science, technology, engineering, and math. Examples of STEM challenges are business simulation, build a tower, and network assembly. Over 1,300 students competed in this year.
Ada finished the day with four gold medals, four silver medals, and four bronze medals in the competition.
