Kyle Kwiat leads no. 18 wrestling at Alma (Mich.) Open

Senior Kyle Kwiat won the 174 pound weight class to lead the No. 18 Ohio Northern wrestling team at the Alma (Mich.) Open.

The event was unscored.

Kwiat, who is ranked No. 1 at 174 pounds, recorded a pin in his first match, followed by a 21-6 tech fall in the semifinals.

He then recorded a 16-0 tech fall over Benjamin Talston of Michigan in the finals.

In the 197 pound class, junior Michael Pawlitz recorded a pin and an 11-2 major decision, before falling by a 6-4 decision in the finals to Andrew Lovins of Heidelberg.

No. 8 women's basketball extends win streak to school record 17 games with 61-44 win at Marietta

The No. 8 Ohio Northern women's basketball team extended their win streak to a school record 17 games with a 61-44 win over Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Ban Johnson Arena.

The Polar Bears are now 18-1 on the season and a perfect 12-0 in OAC play, while the Pioneers fall to 6-13, 1-11.

Junior Cenzie Yoder led the Polar Bears with a game high 13 points.

Senior Morgan Dumbaugh finished with 10 points, while senior Katie Mengos finished with seven points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Candice Alexander and Krissy Rowe each scored 11 points to pace Marietta.

Men's swimming & diving tops Notre Dame (Ohio) 122-104

The Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team picked up a 124-102 victory at Dvision II Notre Dame (Ohio) at Mellon Pool on Friday evening.

With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 10-1 overall, and the loss drops the Falcons to 3-4 on the season.

Sophomore Brian Heilbronner had an individual first place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.83.

He also teamed with seniors Drew Keriazes and Christian Garlock and junior John Beaschler to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:29.05.

Freshman Jacob Croasdell won the 1000 freestyle in 10:14.81.

Hoffman leads women's swimming & diving past Notre Dame (Ohio)

Senior Mackenzie Hoffman won two individual events and a relay to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming & diving team to a 135-102 victory over Division II foe Notre Dame (Ohio) Friday evening at Mellon Pool.

With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 7-5 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 3-4.

Hoffman won the 200 freestyle in 2:04.11 and the 500 freestyle in 5:33.30.

She also teamed with juniors Jennifer Hartsel and Lindsey Rayhill and freshman Lindsey Inkrott to win the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:54.82.

Rayhill touched first in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.61.

Mathew Johnson leads men's indoor track & field at OAC indoor split meet

Junior Mathew Johnson won two events to help the Ohio Northern men's indoor track & field team to a third place finish at the OAC Split Meet hosted by Mount Union.

No. 11 Mount Union won the meet with 279 points, John Carroll was second with 168.5 points, the Polar Bears were third with 132 points,  No. 10 Baldwin Wallace was fourth with 83 points and Heidelberg finished fifth with 53.5 points.

In the DMR, the Polar Bear tandem of junior Evan McKee, sophomore James Rader, sophomore Dan Steigerwald and Johnson finished first in 10:30.25.

Johnson also was victorious in the 1,000 run with a time of 2:38.59.

Women's indoor track & field finishes second at OAC indoor split meet

The Ohio Northern women's track & field team finished second of five teams at the OAC Indoor Split Meet on Friday evening at Mount Union.

No. 10 Mount Union won the event with 264.5 points, Northern was second with 138 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace, John Carroll and Heidelberg.

The tandem of seniors Alison Steinbrunner and Lydia Weaver and sophomores Catie Huber and Shayla Siefker notched a first place finish in the DMR in 12:22.27.

In the 1,000 run, the Polar Bears had the top four finishers.
