Kenton AmVets fish dinner Oct. 18

Kenton Amvets Post 1994, 417 W. Espy St., Kenton, will hold an all-you-can-eat fish dinner Friday, Oct. 18. Serving is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again at 5 to 7 p.m.

The menu is all-you-can-eat fish, baked beans, potato salad and roll for $7 donation. Carry out or eat in. Call 419-673-1990 for more information.

 

ONU to present "The Giver" on Oct. 11

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present a Literature to Life performance of the “The Giver” by Lois Lowery on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m.

Newly adapted by Elise Thoron, associate artistic director, this piece features 60 minutes of solo performance by actress Liz Parker focusing on the relationship between the young Jonas and his mentor, the Giver.

It's October - Ada Kiwanis Club Halloween parade just around the corner

It’s October – get out your Halloween outfit.

This year’s Ada Kiwanis Club Halloween parade is Monday, Oct. 28. Participants should meet behind the Ada Municipal Building on Buckeye Street.

Registration is at 5:30 p.m. and the parade starts at 6 p.m.

Several costume categories are in the judging competition:
• Prettiest
• Scariest
• Most original

Custume judging by age groups follow:
• Pre-school and kindergarten
• 1st and 2nd grades
• 3rd and 4th grades
• 5th and 6th grades
• Groups any age and pets
• Adults (most original only)
• Ada HS band

Alphabet fishing

Didn't know you could fish for letters of the alphabet, did you? You can, if you are a student at Ready, Set, Grow Preschool in Ada. That's what's taking place by one of the students in this photo.

Christmas assistance sign-up in October

Individuals and families in the Ada school district needing assistance with Christmas gifts or Christmas food are urged to sign-up for assistance in October at  the Ada Presbyterian Church fellowship hall. Persons may use the entrance off of Lincoln to enter the church.

Signup dates follow:
Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 27, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.

Still on Main Street after 100 years

Here’s a familiar building on Ada’s Main Street. It’s a colorized photo of the Disciple Church taken over 100 years ago.

Several items make this photo interesting. Look at the street light in front of the church. Also notice that the street is bricked and are there sidewalks? Behind the church appears to be a barn.

The postcard, mailed on Oct. 21, 1910 was sent to “Miss Kerns,” #1338 Dennison Ave., Columbus. The message reads: “Landed in Ada this morning. Having a great time. We are going for an auto ride this p.m. (signed) Ella.
