On view in the Elzay Gallery of Art until Friday, Nov. 18, is “From Picas to Pixels,” an Ohio Northern University graphic design alumni exhibition.
Curated into the show is the exhibit, “Time and Navigation,” a permanent exhibition that opened in April 2013 at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Time and Navigation was designed by ONU graduate Ashley (Dally) Hornish (BFA/graphic design with a minor in museum studies, 2004).
This exhibition explored how revolutions in timekeeping over three centuries have influenced how people find their way. This photograph showed an autonomous car named Stanley that won the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge robot race.
Hornish was able to travel to the Grand Challenge race course in the Mojave Desert in Nevada to take the photograph for the large mural on display behind Stanley.
Since graduation, she has been the exhibit and graphic designer at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. Exhibit hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
She also teaches the Exhibition Design 1 class for George Washington University’s museum studies masters program. Hornish received her M.A. in museum studies in 2009 from George Washington University.
