What a day for 6-year-old Amelia Griffith

Story and photos by Monty Siekerman
One day after her sixth birthday, Amelia was showered with gifts on Sunday from members of Biker Strong who then escorted the Griffith family as they left Ada War Memorial Park for the little girl's last scheduled cancer treatment at Nationwide Hospital in Columbus.

About 100 people showed up during the morning and afternoon to offer support to Amelia and her family, donating over $1,000, canned foods, a handmade biker bear, and more.

When all was said and done, about 25 motorcycles  headed out, escorting the family as far as Marysville.

Speaking for the family, Mom Christine said it was wonderful to see how many beautiful hearts were involved in Sunday's event and the many other fundraisers for Amelia over the years.

She said all at Nationwide Hospital are terrific, caring, and compassionate.
She said Amelia is "a brave little girl" who has undergone many tests and treatments in her lifetime.

Tbone Jacobs of Dunkirk, head of Biker Strong, told the family that they were glad to help and support the Griffiths. He encouraged all to pray for the family, noting that childhood cancer is rough on families, financially and emotionally.

Amelia was made a life member of the group, and she was given a ride on a motorcycle through part of the park before leaving.

Biker Strong, with most members from Hardin County, assisted a Kenton child with cancer earlier this year. The group will assist another family on Oct. 1 in Mt. Victory.

Amelia plans to return to Ada on Friday; hopefully, this trip will be her last scheduled admission.
