The Lima Symphony Orchestra will celebrate Independence Day with a “Patriotic Pops” concert on the campus of Ohio Northern University on Saturday, July 2, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert will take place on the sculpture mall east of McIntosh Center between Presser and Weber halls. This fun-filled family event will feature patriotic music, movie classics, popular tunes and a tribute to our armed services.
Featured selections will include John Cacavas’ arrangement of “Star Spangled Spectacular,” Robert Lowden’s arrangement of “Sounds of the Carpenters,” and soundtrack selections from the films “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Spiderman” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Guest vocalist Kirsten Osbun-Manley, Ohio Northern University resident artist in music and lecturer in music and musical theatre, also will perform on selected songs.
Attendees are encouraged to come early; bring lawn chairs, blankets and their favorite picnic foods; and enjoy an evening of music with family, friends and neighbors on the scenic ONU campus. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in King Horn Center.
Now in its 63rd year, the Lima Symphony Orchestra performs under the baton of Crafton Beck, who has served as artistic director since 1997.
This event is sponsored by the village of Ada, Ada Chamber of Commerce, Ada Family Dentistry, Allan Nott Honda Toyota, Carol Slane Florist, Cole Motor Sales, Fresh Encounter/Community Market, Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance, Liberty National Bank, ONU Residence Life, Quest Federal Credit Union, Robinson Fin Machines Inc. and the Little Chicago Room, Vancrest, and Bud and Barb Winzenried.
