ONU has two Division III All-Americans - and they are both sophomores

Ohio Northern University has two Division III NCAA track and field All-Americans - and they are both sophomore.

Ohio Northern sophomore Emily Richards earned All-America honors in the 800-meter run on the second and final day of the NCAA Division III Women's Indoor track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Bear Recreation and Athletic Center.

Richards came from the back of the pack with 300 meters to go, but was unable to overtake the race winner and was nipped at the tape for third place, finishing in 2:12.00.

Michelle Dobbs of Chicago won the race in 2:11.34 and Amy Vitti of Misericordia (Pa.) was second in 2:11.98.

Richards entered the meet seeded No. 1 nationally and won her heat in a school record and Bear facility record 2:10.52 on Friday.

Matt Molinaro
Ohio Northern sophomore Matt Molinaro earned All-America honors in the 800-meter run on the second and final day of the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Bear Recreation and Athletic Center.

Molinaro finished sixth of eight runners in the finals of the 800 in 1:56.41.

He qualified for the finals on Friday with a second place finish in his heat in the prelims in 1:54.58.

In the finals, Molinaro was in the middle of the pack until stumbling early in the fourth and final lap.

Mitchell Black of Tufts (Conn.) won the race in 1:52.48, Deko Ricketts of Washington (Mo.) was second in 1:53.661 and Cyrus Mason of Wisconsin-LaCrosse was third in 1:53.665.

The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors.
