We understand that opening day for baseball in Cincinnati is an unofficial holiday in that city.
The Icon stringer, Anne Steiner of Cincinnati, did like most people in the Queen City. She took the day off. She also and took photos of the 98th annual opening day parade.
The parade had 189 entries including lots of famous faces! Reds Hall-of-Famer Sean Casey was the parade Grand Marshal.
Cincinnati lost to Philadelphia in the season opener 4-3.
Here are some photos of the parade for Icon viewers.
Ada High School's Winterguard teams perform a season finale, open to the public, in the high school gym at 8:30 p.m., Monday, April 10.
The team completed a very successful competition season. Here is a summary of the team's performances, and a description of what each team does in its competition.
Color guard includes spinning and tossing flags, rifles or sabers, as well as elements of dance and gymnastics performed on a tarp to music within an allotted time. Each group’s performance has a theme.
Ada Kindergarteners in Kim Smittle and Bridgette Jones classes are learning a great chicken and egg story this month.
In a science unit, students are discovering the life cycle of chickens. Twenty-four eggs are in incubation in Mrs. Smittle’s classroom and as of April 5, three chicks hatched.
Mrs. Jones’ classroom also has eggs and they are still “sleeping.” She said, however, that students heard some cheeping coming from some of the eggs. So, it’s any day now.
The chicks will eventually have names. Those names will be selected by students, so stay tuned.
Sing along with the students at the ONU Community Preschool: "When dogs get up in the morning this is what they say...they say..." Dr. Terri Lenzo, music education professor at ONU, leads some singing at the preschool. Students chose the animals in the next verses. There were cats, tigers, lions and even catepillars. You'll need to ask one of the students what the catepillar says in the morning.
