Chris Murphy will present a saxophone recital at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 in Presser Hall at Ohio Northern University. The concert is free and open to the public.
Murphy, of Bowling Green, is a saxophone soloist and music educator. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of South Carolina and a masters’ degree in music in saxophone performance from Bowling Green State University.
He has received several honors and awards for his work, and he was a winner of the Bowling Green State University Concerto competition and the Douglas Wayland Chamber Music Competition.
LONG BEACH, Cal. — Junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) followed up her historic performance at the Mt. Sac Relays with a first place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Cal. on Saturday afternoon.
The junior set the school record in the event and ran the sixth fastest time in Div. III history, finishing first in 4:21.19.
Richards currently owns the best time nationally among Div. III athletes.
Joseph “Joe” Jordan, age 84, died on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at 3:44 p.m. at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
He was born on August 21, 1932 in McGuffey, Ohio to Pearl and Emma (Woods) Jordan who preceded him in death. On August 21, 1954 he married Peggy Duffman and she survives in McGuffey.
Leah A. Staley, age 99, died on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at 1:21 a.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.
She was born on October 28, 1917 in Allen County, Ohio to Emmett and Grace (McClure) Hall who preceded her in death. On July 4, 1939 she married Warren “Buck” Staley and he died on May 4, 2002.
Leah was a homemaker and had previously worked for Clemons Bakery of Lima for seven years. She then worked for Allen County Home for seven years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of LaFayette.
The Ohio Northern University Singers and Chamber Singers will present a concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 21 in Presser Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. It will feature works by C.V. Stanford, Felix Mendelssohn, Jake Runestad, Stephen Paulus and Eric Whitacre in exploration of the concert theme, “The Road Home: A journey in song.”
