Ohio Northern University will celebrate the contributions of American service members with a ceremony on Veterans Day at the Lehr Statue at the front of the campus on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
John Phillip Lomax, ONU professor of history, will be the keynote speaker at the event. Lomax, who has taught history at ONU since 1988, served 12 years as an enlisted member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He will reflect on the ways that military service sets apart those who serve from their fellow citizens. In addition, he will explain how military service is a core characteristic of American citizenship.
ONU President Daniel DiBiasio and Ada Mayor David Retterer will give remarks and conduct a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate fallen veterans. The University Singers will perform the National Anthem and “A Mighty Fortress is My God,” and members of the Ada VFW Post 9381 will present the colors.
Following the program, all veterans and their families are invited to a luncheon at the Ada VFW, sponsored by both the Office of the President at ONU and the Ada VFW. The luncheon will begin at noon.
