Football: Bulldog defense couldn't stop Jefferson running game

22 first quarter Delphos Jefferson points set the tone for the game as the Wildcats would go on to defeat the visiting Ada Bulldogs, 51-7.

The Bulldog defense couldn't stop the Jefferson running game as the Wildcat backs racked up 324 yards rushing on the night. The loss drops Ada to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the Northwest Conference.

The Bulldogs scored their only points of the game on their first possession of the night. After a deep kick-off return by Blake Ansley, Junior gunslinger Trent Jolliff found Cole East, who broke a tackle and rumbled 43-yards for the score. Aaron Everhart's point after kick was good, giving Ada their only lead of the night at 7-0.

Jefferson would respond with a barrage of points, as Mike Binkley, Mike Cline, and Brenen Auer all found the end zone on the ground. Jace Stockwell's 2-point conversion pass to Cline gave the Wildcats a 22-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Wildcats didn't take their foot off the gas in the second quarter as Cline found the end zone for a second time, and quarterback Stockwell hit Ryan Goergens for a 27-yard score. Gage Mercer's two successful extra points gave Jefferson a comfortable 36-7 halftime lead.

Brenen Auer, who led the Wildcats with 119-yards on the ground, broke off a 51-yard touchdown run to score Jefferson's only points of the third quarter. Mercer's point after gave the Wildcats a 43-7 lead after three quarters.

Delphos found the end zone one last time in the fourth as Connor Anspach ripped off a 40-yard touchdown run late in the quarter. Jacob Boop's 2-point conversion run gave us a 51-7 final score.

The Wildcats out-gained the Bulldogs in total yards, 480 to 151. The Cats crushed the Dogs on the ground, rumbling for 324 yards to Ada's 50.

Bulldog quarterback Trent Jolliff went 11 of 32 for 101 yards, 1 score and 2 interceptions. Cole East led the receivers with 3 grabs for 52 yards and a score.

Ada hosts Allen East in their regular season finale this Friday night. The much improved Mustangs (6-3, 3-3) are coming off a tough loss to NWC leader Spencerville 48-27.
