The Ada community is coming together this summer to support one of its younger residents – Amelia Griffin. She is the daughter of Beau and Christina Griffin. Her brothers are Jude, 7, and Willie, 3.
Four-year-old Amelia was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She has a tumor next to her spine and metastasized to her spine, according to information posted on her Facebook “Amelia Griffin Never Surrender Run.”
Tests have shown that her cancer has spread to several spots on her spine and pelvic region and below.
On June 8 Amelia began aggressive chemo.
According to Amelia’s mother, posting on Facebook: “So far Amelia’s cultures are negative. She is still running a fever…her hemoglobin is also low.”
One of Amelia’s supporters, Tammy Crouse, announced on Facebook that “Amelia is my Hero,” bracelets are now available in pink and teal and also in purple and yellow.
Residents interested in a bracelet may contact Tammy. These are available at $3 each or two for $5.
T-shirts

Bike Run
A bike run is planned in Amelia's support. It will begin at O’Conners Irish Pub, 2200 N. Limestone, Springfield, on Saturday, July 18. The run will start at 12:30 p.m. and end at Amelia’s home, 8096 Township Road 90, Ada. It is planned by her uncle, Mike Leithauser.
The run heads to Ada on Route 68 to State Route 309 and then to Ada. The run will be 70 miles and should last about 90 minutes.
There is no charge to ride on this run, but donations may be made at the “Go Fund Me” portion of “Amelia Griffin Never Surrender Run,” according to Leithauser.
He is hoping to have an auction, band and food vendors at the Griffin home on July 18. Those details are not yet complete. All funds raised during the event go to Amelia's medical expenses.
“My main goal in this is to help Amelia with her battle against this aggressive cancer and if nothing more to give this 4 year-old-little-girl just a few hours of excitement where she can hopefully forget about this terrible hand she has been dealt,” he said.
