March 9 College Credit Plus and Credit Flex session at AHS
Ada High School will host a College Credit Plus and Credit Flex meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, March 9, in the auditorium for parents and students attending Ada High School, according to Erinn Prater, high school guidance counselor.
Students and parents are invited to attend the meeting to learn about the College Credit Plus program mandated by House Bill 487. The law allows high school students to enroll in college courses while enrolled in high school, if the student meets eligibility requirements set by the college or university.
Students may enroll during the school day or in the evening, but are not permitted to enroll for summer classes. If the student chooses to use the credit toward high school graduation, the cost of tuition, books, and fees will be paid by the high school.
In considering this option for next school year, students must evaluate academic records and career goals. Students must also consider credit requirements for high school graduation, consequences of failing a college course, scheduling, travel time, athletic eligibility, and other factors.
The credit flexibility program was included in Senate Bill 311 to allow students to customize aspects of their learning around their respective needs and interests. There are many advantages and disadvantages to both programs. For additional information, contact Prater at 419-634-2746.
March 23 College Fair
There will also be a meeting sponsored by the Educational Service Center for Allen and surrounding county students. It will begin with a general information session at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 23, at The Ohio State University in Lima. The event is in the Martha W. Farmer Theater for the Performing Arts.
After this session, there will be a college fair with University of Findlay, Ohio Northern University, The Ohio State University at Lima, Rhodes State College, University of Northwestern Ohio, and Wright State University-Lake Campus in attendance.
Persons attending may get information specific from each of these colleges and universities.
