Scott Knoer, chief pharmacy officer of the Cleveland Clinic, shared his expertise concerning the future of pharmacy and the vital role of the pharmacist with students and faculty of the Ohio Northern University’s Raabe College of Pharmacy on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Knoer’s daylong visit to ONU included a meeting with faculty to discuss future pharmacy practice plans for the Cleveland Clinic, including ways to engage students to an even greater extent in patient care services. In addition, he met with Steven Martin, dean of the Raabe College of Pharmacy, and Daniel DiBiasio, ONU president.
“ONU and the Cleveland Clinic have a long and important relationship, and we have clear alignment of our goals of providing health care and well-trained professionals for our community,” Martin said.
Knoer’s day also included being a guest speaker at the contemporary practice class to share information on his career journey while highlighting the many career options in health-system pharmacy for both the pharmacy and pharmaceutical business students in the class. In addition, Knoer was a guest speaker for the chapter meeting of ONU’s student organization of the Student Societies of Health-System Pharmacists. He highlighted the many components of pharmacy leadership necessary for ensuring patient continuity of care in today’s health-system pharmacy enterprise.
Knoer said, “We are very focused on greatly expanding the opportunities for pharmacy students to gain experiences in delivering direct patient care services, such as medication reconciliation and discharge counseling, which help prepare them for these roles as future pharmacists while also helping the patients of the Cleveland Clinic. Our partnership with colleges of pharmacy, like the Raabe College of Pharmacy at ONU, is critical to this success.”
