Women's basketball moves up to No. 3 in D3hoops.com poll; remains No. 3 in USA Today sports poll

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team moved up to No. 3 in the D3hoops.com poll and remained No. 3 in the USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches poll.

The Polar Bears received 555 points in the D3hoops.com poll, which was 18 more than they received in last weeks poll.

DePauw (Ind.) stayed at the top of the poll with 621 points and 22 of the 25 first place votes and Hope (Mich) is ranked second with 595 points and the three remaining first place votes.

Five Polar Bears named All-Conference in Wrestling; Ohio Northern sweeps OAC special awards

Five Ohio Northern wrestlers earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors and ONU swept the three special awards for 2012-13 in  voting conducted by the league's six head coaches.

Senior three-time All-American and defending national champion Kyle Kwiat was named the John Summa OAC Wrestler of the Year and sophomore Cody Lovejoy won the Most Falls in the Least Amount of Time award.

Head coach Ron Beaschler was named the OAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season and for the third time in his 25-year career.

Pulitzer prize-winning historian speaks at ONU in March

Dr. Gordon S. Wood, the Alva O. Way University Professor Emeritus at Brown University, will discuss “The Revolutionary Origins of the Civil War” in the Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m.

Wood’s talk will attempt to explain how the American Revolution set in motion the forces that led to the sectional split and the resultant Civil War.

The event is free and open to the public.

No. 3 Ohio Northern to face Hanover (Ind.) in first round of NCAA III Women's Basketball Tournament

No. 3-ranked Ohio Northern will face Hanover (Ind.) on Friday in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament Friday in Holland, Mich.

With a win, ONU would either face No. 2-ranked Hope (Mich.) or Wheaton (Ill.) on Saturday in the Second Round.

Times for all three games will be announced later this week.

The Polar Bears (26-1) have won 25 consecutive games and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament title under 12th-year head coach Michale Durand.

Hanover won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference crown and boasts a 21-7 record.

Advance English, U.S. History, Algebra II, Chemistry, Ceramics II and Computer Tech. I’m also a member of the swim, cross country and track teams.

What would you like to do after high school?
My goal at the moment is to attend the University of Florida and compete in swimming.
