Here's the latest from the Ada Kiwanis Club

President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 10 at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, Ada. Jon Umphress offered the invocation.

In business:

-A package of materials from Kiwanis International for the secretary was received and passed to Bill Fuller.
-It was reported that materials for the Ohio District Convention (Columbus, August 8–10, 2014) were received.
-The satellite club will not meet Wednesday night. They will meet next week at 6 p.m. at the Community Health Professionals Building.
-The club’s monthly Board Meeting will be held immediately following this meeting.
-The club’s annual Chicken BBQ will be held on July 11 at 5 p.m. Tickets are now available from any member. The Aktion Club will be selling beverages.

-Red Cross Swimming update from Sandy Neely: 30 Kids have already registered.  Registration must be postmarked by June 23. On June 30 there will be a training session for instructors at 9 a.m. at Sandy Neely’s house.
-Jeff Schulman reported that Kiwanis now has an Associate Membership where Circle K or Key Club members could become Kiwanis members and not pay membership fees for 3 years.
-Kiwanis Education Minute: Kiwanis International conventions began when the Kiwanis Club of Cleveland invited representatives of other clubs to meet there in May 1916. At that time, there were 16 clubs with 1,924 members. A Kiwanis International convention has been conducted every year since then, except for limited conferences in 1943-45 due to wartime travel restrictions.
-Something to Ponder: Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?
