Update from Ada Kiwanis Club

 

President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12:00 noon on Tuesday May 27 at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, Ada.

Jon Umphress offered the invocation.

Member birthdays of Myrna McCurdy (May 28) and Scott Allison (May 29) were noted.

The membership anniversary of Mike Hood (June 1, 198) was also noted.

The wedding anniversary of John and Joanne Berg (May 29, 1955) was also noted.

In business:
-The membership heard an updated financial report from Treasurer Bryan Marshall.
-Secretary Brian Myers reported that he had contacted the Pork Board about the June 17 date for a presentation.
-The satellite club met last week. They will meet tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Community Health Professionals Building.
-President Cox noted that information was sent for the Hugh O’Brian Youth program to the Ada High School, seeking a student to attend. The event will be held in Ada.
-Our next board meeting is set for June 10.
-Joe Ferguson reported that the club will hold a Harlan’s BBQ Chicken dinner on July 11.
-Manda Bennett reported that the Ada Public Library’s summer reading program is kicking off. Signups and a book sale will take place this Saturday May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
-The Division 2 summer meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at Waterparks in Delphos.
-Sandy Neely noted that the club-sponsored American Red Cross swimming lessons program is the planning stages and details will be announced soon.
- The club’s annual Spaghetti Dinner date is set for Thursday evening October 23.

Kiwanis Education Minute: Kiwanis was created by a professional organizer named Allen Simpson Browne. His original concept was an organization whose members did business with each other. However, the Detroit club had been organized only a few weeks when the members began their first service project. During the next five years, Kiwanians would debate the basic purpose of the organization: mutual business exchange or community service.
