Ada Boy Scout troop 124 held its Court of Honor May 12 at the Ada Park.
Here's a report of the event:
The Scouts planned a meal of walking tacos to be shared with their families before beginning the ceremony. Senior Patrol Leader, Aaron Spar served as master of ceremonies. He opened the event with Deavan Scott leading the Pledge of Allegiance along with Patrol Leader, Isaac Spar leading the Boy Scout Oath.
Various young men spoke to the crowd about the events they have participated in since their last Court of Honor in February.
Assistant Patrol Leader Jared Hunt talked about the troop's trip to the Hawthorn Spring Camporee. Patrol Leader James Lee along with new Scout Houston Tacket spoke to the group about the Camp Arrow-wood fishing derby and campout.
Khyler Stoll and Aaron informed the crowd about their park overnighter to help boys with rank advancement. Bugler, Theo Hardesty delivered a speech about the disability awareness merit badge that many scouts earned this winter.
Quartermaster Jacob Butterfield then spoke about the pottery merit badge that they worked on at the Ada High School with art teacher, Mr. Wells. Aaron then introduced his father and committee outdoor adviser, Don Spar to tell the boys and their parents about the upcoming merit badges that they will be working on. They have chosen to work toward earning their golf and woodworking badges over the summer.
Mr. Lehman, Scoutmaster, was then introduced to talk about other events. He informed the group about next weeks meeting of placing the flags on the veteran’s graves at Woodlawn Cemetery. Campouts and canoe trips were also discussed.
Lehman then handed out awards.
* Jacob earned patches for the Polar Bear campout and his participation in Scout Sunday. • * Jared received his Polar Bear patch and the rank of Second Class.
* James accepted his Polar Bear patch and the rank of Tenderfoot.
* Aaron was acknowledge for earning his family life merit badge.
* Isaac acquired his family life merit badge along with his Polar Bear patch.
* Theo was given his disability awareness merit badge and the rank of Tenderfoot.
* Bugler, Theodore Hadley earned his Polar Bear patch.
* Deavan obtained merit badges for pottery, engineering, and art.
* Wyatt Rettig was honored with his Polar Bear patch, disability awareness and first aid merit badges, and the rank of Tenderfoot.
* Khyler received his Polar Bear patch.
Before closing, Committee Chairman, Jim Shilling presented Troop 124 with a certificate of chartering. He also informed the group that they are the oldest troop in Hardin County since the troop was established in 1917. A 100th anniversary recognition is being planned.
If you are an Eagle Scout from Troop 124 or have information on someone earning this Eagle rank through Troop 124 please notify Tom Lehman or Jim Shilling to be certain they are invited to celebrate this event with the troop in 2017.
The troop meets each Monday evening at the Ada Park at 6 p.m. for any boy between the ages of 11 and 18 who are interested in the adventures of scouting.
