Plant sale at Hardin fairgrounds May 10

Several Hardin County garden organizations will be participating in the 11th Annual Hardin County Plant Sale. This event is scheduled for Saturday, May 10 in the Arts & Crafts building at the fairgrounds. There will be browsing and coffee available from 8:30–9:00 a.m. with the actual sale running from 9:00 a.m.–noon.  Proceeds from this annual plant sale benefit the activities and programs of the various garden groups represented.

A large selection of perennials and annuals will be available for the homeowner to use to beautify the landscaping around their property. Plants available to choose from include flowers, bedding plants, roses, herbs, and various other potted plants. In addition to making healthy plants available to the public, there will be several volunteers on site to answer gardening questions and provide advice for possible landscaping and beautification projects.

The annual plant sale is sponsored by the OSU Extension Hardin County Master Gardeners in conjunction with Hardin County Garden Clubs. Clubs offering plants for sale in addition to the Master Gardeners include Deep Roots Garden Club, Men’s Garden Club, Rose Society, Kenton Garden Club, Hardin Northern Garden Club, and the Herb Society.

The OSU Extension Master Gardeners is a group of trained volunteers who conduct educational programs related to gardening and other horticultural topics to the public.  The group has an educational garden called "The Friendship Gardens of Hardin County."  This garden is located at 960 Kohler Street in Kenton, which is behind the Harco Industries building. Volunteers are available to conduct education programs by contacting the Extension office. The Master Gardeners also have a Facebook page called Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardeners where members of the public can submit photos of weeds, insects, or diseases and ask gardening or horticultural questions about trees, shrubs, ornamental plants, turf, and landscaping ideas.
