The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents the 2014 Sax Day Evening Concert on Saturday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in Presser Hall’s Snyder Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature Gene Parker, ONU lecturer of music, along with Obsidian Quartet saxophonists Joyce Griggs, associate director for the University of Illinois school of music; Heidi Radtke Siberz, University of Indiana doctoral candidate and saxophone instructor at Stafford Music Academy and for the Franklin Community School District; and Henning Schröder, ONU assistant professor of music. The program features the four artists in different combinations, showcasing the saxophone in a fun program of jazz, contemporary and classical music.
Comprised of passionate performers, teachers and advocates for the arts, the members of the Obsidian Quartet are committed to providing engaging sonic experiences through a mix of diverse repertoire and audience interaction. Officially formed in 2013, the ensemble came together after working with one another for more than a decade.
Also playing will be the Sax Day Large Ensemble, featuring talented students from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana joining together to show the full range of the extended saxophone family.
