Extension - 4-H levy on May 6 Hardin ballot: not an additional tax

Five years ago the voters of Hardin County passed a 0.4 mil levy to support Hardin County OSU Extension. The Extension office supports 4-H Youth Development, Agriculture & Natural Resources, and Family Consumer Science programming. It preserved the 4-H program through the end of 2014. On May 6 the voters of Hardin County are again being asked to support OSU Extension and 4-H.

The Hardin County Commissioners placed this levy on the ballot. This is a new levy.  The old levy will expire in December 2014. Rather than a 0.4-mill levy, the new levy will be reduced to 0.35 mils. This will provide a stable source of county funding for OSU Extension during the years 2015-2019. The new levy will produce the slightly lower budget than the previous 0.4 levy. The reduction is to be respectful of the current residents who supported OSU Extension in the last levy.

The attachment at the bottom of this story shows the taxable amount for the existing 0.4 mil levy and the new Lower 0.35 mil levy for typical Hardin County properties.

Extension is funded as a partnership between The Ohio State University, as a land-grant university, the United States Department of Agriculture, and Hardin County. Without the county levy funds, all of the current Extension and 4-H programs will cease and the office will close. The state and federal monies that support the Extension staff will not be available to Hardin County without the local county funding.
Thank you for your support,
