Seven Ada students received Lions Club scholarships

On May 25, The Ada Lions Club honored this year’s scholarship recipients. As recipients were announced, these Ada High School students shared their plans following graduation. The club provided a meal to all scholarship recipients and their families, according Bob Simmons, the club's scholarship chairperson.

This year, the Club awarded seven scholarships for a total of $7250.00. One special scholarship award was given in honor of Joe Allen,who began the mulch project in 2000. Kirsten Poling received this scholarship award. 

Scholarship recipients are:

Madison Archer - $500

Riley Ferguson - $500

Selena Gonzalez-Jordan - $1200

Rescheduled: Strike Out Cancer fundraiser now May 28

Crummy weather is messing with outdoor events this week. The Ada Exempted Village Schools have announced that the first annual Strike Out Cancer game originally scheduled for Thursday evening will now be held on Saturday, May 28.

10:00 a.m. Home Run Derby and Fastest Pitch contest

11:00 a.m. Benefit game between Ada High School varsity baseball and softball teams

A 50-50 raffle and bake sale will also be held in conjunction with the event.

Tickets on sale for Hardin Co. garden tour

Blossoms and Butterflies, June 26 in Kenton and Ada

The Keep Hardin County Beautiful Commission will be hosting a garden tour in the Kenton and Ada area on June 26, 2022 from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

The “Blossoms and Butterflies” tour will be a relaxing stroll through nine beautiful gardens. The invitation reads: "We hope that you take this opportunity to experience the joys and rewards of gardening. A Master Gardener will be present at each garden to answer your gardening questions."

Photo-story: "Authorator" David Biedrzycki visits Ada Elementary School

On May 20, the Ada Schools hosted author-illustrator David Biedrzycki for three high-energy presentations to elementary students. Biedrzycki–who calls himself an “anthorator”--explained how he develops a book, answered student questions, and showed how he uses digital illustration tools. 

What’s Going On?

Fifty-one years ago, Marvin Gaye released his album titled, What’s Going On that included the hit single by the same name. The album was released on May 21, 1971 and was hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as a thematic approach to social and political issues. The song was a response to violence and riots in the United States related to the war in Vietnam, as well as race relations.
