Late goal advances ONU women’s soccer to NCAA 2nd round

DUBUQUE, Iowa — A late goal from junior Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.) gave the Ohio Northern women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Rose-Hulman (Ind.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday at Rock Bowl Stadium on the campus of Loras (Iowa).

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team defeated Mount Aloysius (Pa.) on penalty kicks, 4-2, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on a snowy Saturday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium in Ada.

ONU and MAC played to a 1-1 draw through regulation and a pair of 10-minute overtime periods.

The No. 11 Polar Bears (13-3-4) advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will play No. 15 North Park (Ill.) on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Kerscher Stadium.

The Mounties end their season with a record of 10-7-3.

Both teams scored in the second half of regulation.

Sophomore Brenden Gervers (Grand Blanc, Mich.) put the Polar Bears up 1-0 with a goal in the 58th minute on an assist from sophomore Ryan Parker (Lexington).

The Mounties knotted the score at 1-all in the 84th minute, when Louis Bez found Rhett Pletcher for a goal that ultimately sent the game to overtime.

Northern out-shot MAC 6-2 in the 20 minutes of overtime as neither team was able to break the deadlock.

Whimsical crows by Jaye Bumbaugh (ONU '59) exhibited at Artspace/Lima

ArtSpace/Lima has announced the display of work by the late Jaye Bumbaugh, who was an artist, teacher and professor at Bluffton University whose work often featured whimsical crows, many of which were centered around stories made up from childhood.

Bumbaugh’s ceramic and printed  crows are part of the  ‘Lost. Recovered. Reborn.’ exhibition at ArtSpace. His work will be located in the third floor gallery. 

The event is free and open to the public.  

Veterans' Day celebrated with breakfast honoring local veterans

The Ada Schools have a tradition established over more than 20 years of closing on Veterans’ Day and hosting a breakfast for area veterans. On November 11, 2022, there was an excellent turnout with some 37 veterans and their families–over 100 guests in total–enjoying a breakfast and program in the school cafeteria.

Steingass pottery open house events

From noon-5:00 p.m. on November 12 and December 3 (or by appointment), local artist Andrew Steingass will host an open house and sale featuring his wood-fired pottery. Steingass's workshop is located at 3354 County Road 1, Ada

Work by Steingass includes drinkware, bowls tumblers and teaware. New forms are boxes, platters, jars with lids, watering cans and pitchers.

Sculpture setting transformed
