In the little brown cabin at 402 S. Main, two new businesses are opening: Crosby’s barbershop and Mellow hair studio. The space has been divided for two distinct but complementary businesses, one operated by barber Blake Pifer and the other by his partner, stylist Yessica Arriaga.

During the week of December 12, Pifer started the “soft open” of his barber shop. This is a homecoming for Pifer, an Ada native who has been cutting hair in Columbus for eight years. Arriaga, who grew up in Columbus, graduated from cosmetology school eight years ago. The pair are making a home in Ada at the same time that they are opening their businesses together.

AHS boys basketball bounces back, beats Cory

Bulldogs on the road at New Knoxville, Friday, December 23

By Cort Reynolds

The host Ada boys basketball team ran off 19 unanswered points in the first half, then held off spunky local rival Cory-Rawson to win 44-34 in a non-conference bout Saturday night.

The Bulldogs built a 20-point lead late in the second quarter, but had to stave off a late charge by the pressing Hornets to end a three-game losing skid.

Ada improved to 4-3 after the win, while Cory fell to 4-4 with the defeat.
