Nine ONU alumni honored for exceptional work and service

Seven Northern University graduates received distinguished alumni awards and two received young alumni awards during Homecoming Weekend in October 2022.

Distinguished Alumni Award recipients:

David Hileman, BSPh ’86, BSBA ’87, a registered pharmacist and patient services executive, is executive vice president of PharmaCord. As a founding executive of the company, his focus is on working with biopharma manufacturers to develop and provide support services for specialty products and complex disease states. Throughout his career in healthcare services, he has been featured in numerous trade publications and spoken at a variety of conferences about commercialization services.

Kenneth Hall, BSEd ‘64, received the Alumni Service Award. He retired from Roundy’s in 2010 as vice president of marketing and merchandising after 31 years with the company. Hall has served the Alumni Advisory Board in various capacities since 2009.

James Halderman, BSEd ‘68, received the Getty College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award. He retired as a professor from Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio in 2010.  Since retiring, he has written automotive textbooks mainly used at community colleges. As the leading textbook author for the automotive education industry, Halderman is always bringing attention to his education at ONU while speaking throughout the country. Most recently, Halderman’s support led to the creation of an innovative lab and think space on campus called the Halderman Sustainability Lab. He has also funded the installation of a fleet of charging stations for electric vehicles at ONU.

AHS wrestling 3rd at Cory Duals

The Ada High School wrestling team opened its season by coming in a solid third at the annual six-team Cory-Rawson Duals event Saturday.

The Bulldog grapplers won three of their five matches. 

Ada lost to Van Buren 42-30, but rebounded to beat host Cory 48-24. The Bulldogs then beat Delphos Jefferson, 46-30.

Archbold downed Ada 63-12, yet the Bulldogs came back to defeat Arcadia 43-24.

Funeral services for Millie Ann Joseph

Millie Ann Joseph, age 48, of Kenton, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at her residence.

She was born on July 15, 1974, to Corbet “Bill” Joseph and Pauline (Howard) Joseph.  Her father Bill preceded her in death, and her mother and stepfather, Pauline and Jim Seitz survive in Kenton.   

Millie is also survived by her two daughters: Stacie (Douglas Bolling) Brown, and Haley Brown both of Kenton; six grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Joseph of Kenton; and a sister, Susie Joseph Kindle of Alger.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Garry Lightner.

Tom W. Parker worked for Ford Motor Company

Tom W. Parker, Sr., age 93, of Alger, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Vancrest of Ada.

He was born on August 29, 1929, in Wayland, Kentucky to the late Dave and Grace (Hicks) Parker.  On September 23, 1949, Tom married Loraine Perkins, she preceded him in death on July 10, 2009.

Tom retired in 1988 after working for thirty-two years for Ford Motor Company of Lima.  He was a member of the UAW Local #1219 of Lima. Tom was a former member of the McGuffey Conservation Club.

Silent Auction benefits Ada Public Library

The Ada Public Library's Holiday Silent Auction will take place December 5-17 with proceeds supporting the Summer Reading program. Watch the library's Facebook page for previews of baskets.

Organizers note: "We are still accepting donations for the auction, such as themed gift baskets and/or gift cards, children’s items (new books, toys, games, or craft items), admission tickets (valid in 2023), merchandise for all ages, free services, lodging, etc. Please include the fair market value with your donation(s)."
