Leis takes AEDG helm; Stratton to lead GLR and advance initiatives

The Allen Economic Development Group (AEDG) has announced that Cindy Leis is its new President and CEO. This follows Dave Stratton's transition to President and CEO of the Greater Lima Region (GLR). Stratton has been with AEDG since 2015 and led the organization since 2019. Both boards have approved the transitions, which took effect on Monday, July 15.

This shift marks a new era for both AEDG www.aedg.org  and GLR greaterlimaregion.com/. With Leis at the helm of AEDG and Stratton steering GLR, the two organizations are set to work collaboratively toward shared goals of supporting economic, business, and community development in Allen County and the surrounding region.

Leis’s primary goals will be infrastructure and site preparedness, attraction of new business, supporting existing businesses in Allen County and job creation in Allen County.

How much is that doggie in the window?

Hardin County Dog Warden Cody Blair and Sheriff Keith Everhart invite you to "DOGGO DAY," Dog Adoption opportunity on July 20 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the Hardin County Dog Warden's Office and Dog Kennel, 49 Jones Rd., Kenton. This pup and all the other dogs will be $30 including shots, microchip, spayed or neutered, tags adoption fee and a collar. Hot dogs and face painting, too!

Allen County OVI checkpoint on July 19

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced that an OVI checkpoint will be held in Allen County on the evening of July 19. The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

Pie lovers invited to compete in 2nd annual Farmers & Merchants contest

The Ada Ohio Historical Society hopes you're hungry! The organization is hosting its 2nd annual pie eating contest at the 2024 Farmer's & Merchant's Picnic.

The contest will be held at 2:30 on Saturday August 10 at Ada War Memorial Park.

Village of Ada Pool to add security detail to Tuesday late swim

Due to recent incidents with unruly individuals during Tuesday eventing late night swims (8:00-10:00 p.m.) at the Village of Ada Pool, the village council approved a request to hire a police officer to provide assistance at the facility on those evenings.

I Heard It Through the Grapevine: Hearing and health

I Heard It Through the Grapevine was first released by Motown Records on September 28, 1967.  It was recorded by Gladys Knight & the Pips. The second release was in August of 1968 by The Miracles, even though they were the first to record it in 1966.  The third release was by Marvin Gaye on October 30, 1968.  The Marvin Gaye version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998 and has been used in television commercials and movies. 

Why is hearing so important to our health?  

Hearing loss has been associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline, dementia and poor physical health. The National Institute on Aging reports a faster decline of memory and concentration in those individuals who have hearing losses without corrective devices compared to those with normal hearing. A Johns Hopkins study followed 639 adults over a 12-year period and found those with mild hearing loss were 2 times more likely to develop dementia compared to those with severe hearing loss, who were 5 times more likely.
