Ada volleyball takes loss to Falcons

MT. BLANCHARD – The visiting Ada High School volleyball team lost a tough four-setter at Blanchard Valley Conference foe Riverdale Monday evening, September 30.

The Bulldogs won the first set 26-24, but dropped the final three games 25-15, 25-14, 25-17.

Ada dropped to 9-10 overall and 2-6 in BVC play after the road defeat.

The Falcon girls improved to 7-11 overall and 3-4 in BVC action with the win.

Senior Natilyn McClain mustered a team-high 16 digs. Senior libero Jenna Bassitt hustled up 14 digs, and served one ace.

Stephen Cornelius was a U.S. Navy Veteran

Stephen Richard Cornelius, age 57, of Alger, Ohio passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024 at his residence. 

He was born on June 28, 1967 in Wellsville, New York to Edward and Ruth (Sherman) Cornelius.  His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Wellsville, New York.  

Also surviving are his seven siblings: Sherry Lafferty, Roger Cornelius, Terry (Kimberly) Cornelius, Randy Cornelius, Robert (Janett) Cornelius, Ron (Valerie) Cornelius and Don (Magdalena) Cornelius.

Stephen was a U.S. Navy Veteran.       

Catherine Petersen worked at Ada Technologies

Catherine L. “Cathy” Petersen, age 65, of Ada, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.  

She was born on June 20, 1959, in Lima, Ohio to Danny and Norma (Rex) Preston.  Her father, Danny Preston and her mother, Norma Rex preceded her in death. Cathy was previously married to Merit M. Conley. On October 21, 2000 Cathy married John Petersen and he survives in Ada. 

Also surviving are her two daughters: Jordan (Russell) Girdler of Findlay and Abby (Brent) Luchini of Wapakoneta; four grandchildren: Caiden, Lucy, Kennedy and Isabelle; a brother, Bill (Barb) Preston of Alger; and several nieces. 

Village of Ada Street maintenance paving project update for Sept. 30

Inclement weather on Saturday has delayed the street maintenance paving project until today, Monday, September 30.

The paving contractor  is currently working on South Park and will move to north Johnson next. Afternoon work will include both downtown alleys and the top course of Pebble Court.

Again, this is all weather dependent.
