Deb Curlis updates Kiwanis members on Ada chamber

President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12:00 noon on Tuesday February 25th at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University.

Jon Umphress offered the invocation.

The membership anniversary of member Sharon MacKenzie (February 27, 1996) was noted.

In business:
-Treasurer Bryan Marshall updated members on club finances.
-Secretary Brian Myers reported that information on this spring’s Key Leader Conference has been received. Pancake & sausage ticket sales teams have been are distributed with the minutes.

-The Satellite Club will meet tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Health Professionals Building. The club is still working on the grant budget. The club will be sending a letter and budget before May.

-The Chili Delivery to Families – was cancelled last week because one of the nurses was hurt on her way to work and now Claudia is in crisis mode trying to find help and such.
-The annual Pancake and Sausage Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 29th at the Ada High School Cafeteria. Serving is from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 P.M. Tickets are now available.
-The 2014 OHIO Kiwanis Mid-Year Education Day will be held at the Marriott Columbus Airport Hotel on Saturday March 8th.

-The next Division 2 Meeting is set for March 12, 2014 at Milano’s Café in Lima at 6:30 p.m.

-The Ohio District of Kiwanis is doing a “Race for Membership.”
-Bob McCurdy is suggesting that clubs participate in Relay for Life on Sunday, March 23rd. Bob is going to look at sponsoring a team.

-Our next Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11th, immediately following regular meeting. Next week we will meet at New China.

-ONU Circle K Advisor Bill Fuller reported: they will meet for the second time this year this evening. They sent 32 boxes Christmas boxes overseas. They have many projects planned for this spring and have inducted 15 new members.
-Kiwanis Education Minute: Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today’s young leaders ages 14-18. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership – it comes from helping others succeed.

Bryan Marshall introduced Deb Curlis, President of the Ada Chamber of Commerce. She started by mentioning that the earliest documents she has on the Chamber date to 1952 and she discussed some of the businesses that were in town in 1952.

After reminding the group of the individuals of the Chamber, she mentioned the benefits of joining the Chamber and that there are 75 different groups and organizations registered with the Chamber.

She mentioned that she has been talking to a lot of people in town about what the town needs, and some of the different businesses that the Chamber and town wants to attract.

She talked about the new businesses in town: Artist’s Boutique, the Comedy Club, Covenant Cleaning (soon to open), and the Barbershop on Main.

Deb talked about the community activities that the Chamber has undertaken during the past year and what they are looking to do this year and future years.

She mentioned the Hardin County Chamber will be hosting a Dinner here in Ada this week.
She went onto discuss the number of people working at the various businesses in town including the 950 people at ONU, 500 people ATI, 118 at Wilson and 104 at Ada Schools.
Marilyn Green was the winner of the 50-50 drawing.

The Ada Kiwanis Club meets each Tuesday at 12:00 noon at McIntosh Center, ONU. Guests are always welcome.
