The Ada High School Varsity Singers travelled to Piqua on Jan. 18, to perform in the 31st Annual Piqua High School Show Choir Invitational Competition. The event was hosted by Piqua’s show choir, "The Company," and the Piqua Music Boosters.
The Varsity Singers performed their 2013-14 competition show titled, “Wake Up America,” in the Hartzell Center for the Performing Arts.
This year’s competition show is comprised of the musical selections, “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” “Wake Up America,” “Heal the World” with soloist Cole Tabor, “Price Tag” with soloists Courtney Rudasill, Emily Keckler and Evan Smittle, and, “Kids of America” with soloist Justina Fuqua.
During the Daytime Awards Ceremony, sophomore Chanler Hughart received the Individual Performer Award as a member of the Varsity Singers.
The Varsity Singers are a select group of students from Ada High School, formed in 1978, who have actively performed annually on the show choir circuit across the Midwest. This year’s Varsity Singers are comprised of 24 singer/dancers, seven instrumentalists and three stage crew members.
Members of the Varsity Singers are actively involved in numerous other academic, athletic and extracurricular activities at Ada High School and in the community. The Varsity Singers are under the direction of Abby Glenn, director of vocal music, and, Jonathan Lischak, director of bands, at Ada High School.
The Varsity Singers next compete on Feb. 15 in Medina, March 8 at Teays Valley and March 22 at Wapakoneta.
