A conversation with Kelsey Zimmerly, Ada's homecoming queen

Because our most recent interview was with Colton Hall, Ada's homecoming king, we thought it would be great to talk with the homecoming queen. We met up with Kelsey Zimmerly during lunch. She was with several friends who claim they sit at the same table every day for lunch. Here’s a portion of our conversation.

What classes are you taking this year?
Show choir, Psychology, study hall, College Prep English, office worker, Algebra III, Personal Finance and Photography.

What’s your favorite subject?
English. I like to write.

What colleges are you considering attending?
University of Cincinnati, Bowling Green and maybe Ohio Northern. I’m interested in early childhood education or physical therapy.

Tell me about the most recent movie you've watched and rate it on a scale of 1 to 5.
“The Notebook.” I’d give it a 10. It was great. It was a love story, sad and happy. I wish it were my life.

How about the next book you might read?
“Water for Elephants.” I understand its pretty good.

Relive some of your junior high tee-peeing days with us.
(Laughs). Back in the eighth grade Spencer Archer (she points to him at another table in the cafeteria) and I had TP wars. It would go back and forth from his yard to mine.

What are some of your activities outside of school?
I’m a dancer at Rhythm in Motion. I’m also a Girl Scout Ambassador. I’ve been in Girl Scouts since I was in kindergarten.

What’s your most favorite style of dance?
Lyrical. It’s slower and tells a story. It shows your emotions.

I understand you won an award at the Music Feast this past weekend. Tell me about it.
I was named the “Best Performer” in the group Ada competed against.

Have you figured out this year’s prom dress yet?
Not yet. I don’t know. It will probably have sparkles. Last year’s was a mermaid style and it was sparkly.

If you could take any famous person to a restaurant in Ada with just the two of you at a table, who would you invite and where would you go?
I’d take Dave Franco to El Campo. Because he’s really attractive. I’d probably just sit there and stare at him the whole time.

I can’t help but notice your friends with us at this table. Do you guys really sit together every lunch?
Every lunch in the same chairs – indicating to Emily, Cory, Jess, Kenzie, Tori, Bri, Annabel and Michaela.

What was it like being named homecoming queen this year?
It was awesome! It didn’t really hit me at first.

Where’s the crown?
It’s on a bookshelf at home.

Where would you like to be in 10 years?
(Pause). I’d like to live in Ada. We are all very close (in Ada). We can count on each other.

Bell rings - Well, thanks for talking with me and good luck from here on.
