Ohio Northern University to host OhioDance Fall Festival and Conference
The 2013 OhioDance Fall Festival and Conference, “Dance Matters: The More You Know,” will be held at Ohio Northern University from Sept. 27-29. The three-day event is co-sponsored by ONU and OhioDance.
The OhioDance Festival and Conference, an annual celebration of dance through master classes, workshops, discussions and performances, is expected to attract more than 200 individuals from the state of Ohio. The conference embodies the organization’s mission of supporting the diverse and vibrant practice of dance. There will be break-out sessions and master classes of six different tracks: somatics, yoga, pilates and wellness; modern, contemporary, jazz and tap; historical, social and ballet; dance education roundtables; classes for teachers; and classes geared toward junior dancers.
Top dance professionals and professors from the state of Ohio will conduct the sessions, and the panel discussions will emphasize the importance of a broad education. Specific focus will be placed on proper dance wellness and the role it plays in every dancer’s life.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m., the Eisenhower Dance, along with the ONU Dance Company, will perform. In summer 1991, Eisenhower Dance became one of the Midwest’s premier contemporary dance companies. Now, more than 20 years later, this diverse group continues to share its talent by performing throughout the country as well as conducting education outreach in Rochester, Mich.
A grant from The Ohio Arts Council is helping to fund this event. The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program/organization with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
