President-elect Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12:01 p.m. on Tuesday August 13 in Conference Room #7, McIntosh Center, ONU.
Jon Umphress offered the invocation.
The birthday of Sandy Neely (August 15) was noted in song.
The membership anniversary of Myrna McCurdy (8/13/07) was noted.
The wedding anniversary of Mark and Kimberly Light (8/12/1995) was also noted.
In business:
-Members were updated on club finances.
-Secretary Brian Myers said that the July report was filed on time and the form for a Distinguished Club was forwarded to the President for approval and conveyance to the Lt. Governor.
-The next Division 2 Council Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 17 to be held at Briarwood Village Community Room in Coldwater. Please mark your calendars accordingly and share the date with your clubs. It will begin with a meet and greet at 6 p.m. with dinner scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the meeting to follow. We will be passing the Lt. Governor’s banner to the Ada Club and new Lt. Governor Jeff Schulman at this meeting. Please plan to attend.
-The next satellite club meeting will be held at the Community -Health Professionals building on Wednesday August 14 at 6 p.m. Update on the sign.
-Joe Ferguson reported that the community service club signs have been erected and all remaining fees have been remitted. The web site is being finished and should be complete soon. The committee is still meeting to work out additional details.
-Joe Ferguson reported that 64 children participated and 8 Kiwanis+3 “helpers” (Linda Ferguson, Junko Togo, and Joanne Berg) each contributed 3 hours of service. Pictures of the event were shared with the media. 4 places were awarded this year.
-Brian Myers updated members on the Ohio Kiwanis District Convention held over the weekend in Columbus. There were 110 clubs represented. The next international convention will be in Tokyo. The following worked at the event: Sharon Mackenzie, Brian Myers’ Jon Umphress Jeff Schulman, Bryan Marshall, Charles Van Dyne, Marilyn Green and Heather Cox. The event featured 89 baskets and generated about $3,500. Our basket went to Jill Smithy. Thanks to Mike (Ann) Hood for putting the basket together for us. -Jeff Shulman asked the club to go on record to pass a resolution that the club congratulates the Lima club for successfully hosting the District Convention.
-Joe Ferguson reported that the Tree Dedication was at the Community Health Professionals Building. There were about 20 Kiwanis members and guests in attendance. The dinner was provided with homemade ice cream by Anita Dearth.
-The club discussed dates for the Spaghetti Dinner at Ada High School.
-The club will participate on the Harvest and Herb parade
-The club agreed to support the 4H project again this year.
-Bryan Marshall suggested a resolution to thank Sandy Neely for all her efforts for in the annual swim program.

Only chartered Kiwanis clubs are members of Kiwanis International. No individual is a member of Kiwanis International; each Kiwanian is a member of his or her club.

Sandy Neely reported on the Ada Swim lesson project that the club hosted in collaboration and under the direction of Red Cross.
She showed nearly 500 pictures (taken by Lisa Ferguson).
She noted that 70 swimmers participated and the weather was good.
She noted that the volunteers performed over 311 hours of total service. She added that if the club plans to assist next year additional help will be needed.
She explained the various activities that are undertaken to run the program.
The Ada Kiwanis Club meets each Tuesday at 12:00 in McIntosh Center, ONU. Guests are always welcome.
